Need Help Paying for Groceries? NJ SNAP Can Help.

If you’re worried about how to afford food for yourself or your family, you’re not alone — and there’s no shame in needing help. Many people in Mercer County and Hunterdon County, NJ, including those with disabilities, face tough times that make buying groceries difficult.

NJ SNAP (New Jersey’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) offers monthly help to pay for food, so you and your loved ones can stay healthy and independent. Even if you only need help for a few months, SNAP benefits can make a real difference in your life.

At Progressive Center for Independent Living, our certified SNAP Navigators provide free, confidential help with applying for SNAP benefits. We’re here to answer your questions, support you through the application process, and help you feel confident getting the assistance you deserve.

1 / What is NJ SNAP?

NJ SNAP provides monthly funds on a benefits card to help you buy groceries at most stores and some farmers markets in New Jersey.

2 / Who can get SNAP?

Many people qualify, including individuals and families with low incomes, seniors, and people with disabilities in Mercer and Hunterdon County, NJ.

3 / Is help from a Navigator free?

Yes! SNAP Navigator services are always free and confidential. You should never pay to get help with your application.

4 / Why should I talk to a Navigator?

Navigators help you check eligibility, gather documents, fill out applications, and keep your SNAP benefits active.

5 / What documents should I bring when I apply?

It’s helpful to bring:

  • Proof of income (pay stubs, tax records)

  • Proof of address (utility bills, lease)

  • Rent or mortgage costs

  • Utility costs (gas, electric, water)

  • Identification for each household member

  • Social Security numbers for household members

  • Medical expenses (for people 60+ or with disabilities)

  • Childcare or adult care costs
