Mental Health First Aid Training

At Progressive Center for Independent Living, we are proud to offer Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training in Mercer County and Hunterdon County, NJ — available in person or virtually for participants over the age of 18. Our programs include both Youth MHFA, focused on supporting children and adolescents, and Adult MHFA, designed to address the needs of adults in crisis. These evidence-based courses equip teachers, school staff, first responders, social workers, healthcare providers, and community professionals with the skills to recognize the signs of a mental health challenge, respond effectively, and connect individuals with the right support. A program fee applies, and group sessions are available for 5 to 30 participants. Disability-friendly accommodations are also offered upon request — such as receiving a large-print manual or other supports to ensure full access. Whether you’re a professional seeking continuing education, a school aiming to build a safer environment, or an agency looking to strengthen your team, our Mental Health First Aid courses in New Jersey provide flexible, practical tools to make a lasting impact.

Benefits to Enrolling In MHFA

1 / Confidence In Any Situation

After this training, you won’t be left wondering what to do when someone is in distress. You’ll know how to stay calm, provide immediate support, and connect them with the right resources. This confidence is especially valuable for parents, teachers, and first responders who may be the first to notice a crisis.

2 / Safer Schools & Communities

Mental Health First Aid promotes environments where people feel seen, supported, and respected. Schools benefit by creating safe spaces for students to learn and grow, while workplaces and community organizations build trust and resilience. By completing MHFA in Mercer or Hunterdon County, NJ, you become part of a network working to strengthen the entire community.

3 / Inclusive & Accessible Support

Our training emphasizes that mental health support must include people with disabilities. You’ll gain a better understanding of how to provide help that is both compassionate and accessible, ensuring no one is left out of critical conversations. These inclusive skills are essential for social workers, healthcare providers, and disability service professionals.

4 / Breaking Stigma

One of the most powerful outcomes of MHFA is reducing the stigma around mental health. The more people are trained, the more our communities view mental health challenges as something we can talk about — not something to hide. This shift helps families, schools, and workplaces foster compassion and openness instead of fear or misunderstanding.

5 / Flexible Training Options

Busy schedule? No problem. Our Mental Health First Aid courses are available both in-person and virtually, making it easier to participate no matter your situation. Schools, agencies, and organizations can also host private sessions for groups of 5 to 30 participants. This flexibility ensures you can choose the format that works best while still gaining all the benefits of MHFA. In addition, we provide disability-friendly accommodations upon request — such as large-print manuals or other supports — to meet a variety of learning needs.
