What is a Center for Independent Living?
A Center for Independent Living (CIL) is a vital resource and support hub for people with disabilities seeking to lead self-directed and empowered lives. These centers play a crucial role in the Independent Living Movement (ILM), which advocates for the full inclusion and participation of individuals with disabilities in society. Each CIL offers are variety of programs, but all offer 5 core services to support ILM philosophy; information & referral, individual & systems advocacy, individual & peer support, independent living skills education and transition.
